A Time to BEE Empowered

U eat, drink & breathe? I start businesses. Most of you know that my busy selling season is during the summer months and I love finding new ways to be involved in my community both by selling and networking. Between my involvement with the women’s entrepreneurial group, B.I.G and my passion for empowering women in all aspects of their life, I arrived at a whole new Sueb.do venture.

Computer Companion

I call it Computer Companion. Meetings happen several days  weekly meeting of 2 hr.s where 6 people come to learn, collaborate and share. It encompasses a group of women eager to learn different pieces of information around technology, social media, biz marketing and making the most of the technology you consume. The women come with an open-mind, good questions, patience and a fully-charged mac computer.

I’ve been having a great time sharing all of the knowledge I’ve gathered over the last few years and look forward to staying on top of the latest trends and information on the market to share to my companions.I have a love of knowledge. I love the process of honing in on something to learn all of the “in’s and out’s” of. I then realized I have a natural knack for sharing that knowledge to others and paring it down into the real “what you need to know.” I have a passion for technology and anyone who runs in my network knows I am a bit of an early adopter. I look to Apple for all of my techno-efficient buys such as the iphone, ipad (for biz and personal use!), computer and even my tv!

In each group we discuss two main umbrella topics: The Mac and Social Media.

The Power of Giving:

Mel Robbins- a true business dynamo.

Mel Robbins is an author, relationship expert, syndicated radio host and America’s Life Coach. I met her at Tory Johnson’s  Spark and Hustle weekend for which I was a sponsor and a vendor on the shopping night. Of course I connected with her and gave her a Humanity bracelet as a token to remember the evening and connect her to my biz Sueb.do. In wrapping the bracelet on her wrist she said she had to have one of these bracelets for her daughter. In kicked my instincts to which I responded, “sure as long as you promise to come speak to B.I.G- a women’s entrepreneurial group I am a pod leader for.”

Flash forward to September 2011 and Mel Robbins is sitting at HYP Yoga studio in Wellesley,Ma donning a new Sueb.do best-selling bracelet amped to offer her sharp and effective advice for living to a room of hard-working, empowered women entrepreneurs.

What makes all of this so amazing is that you really never know until you try. I came to find out, when someone asked at the meeting, how much she charged for a speaking engagement of this nature, that she usually gets a whopping $10,000 and an astonishing $500/hr for one-on-one advice.

From that meeting, everyone left engaged, inspired,empowered and in awe and one woman even hired Mel for a one-on-one and it has truly changed her life.

All of this stemmed from a powerful networking event which has greatly impacted my life- Spark and Hustle and my never ending drive to meet and connect with powerful women in business. This is truly power of networking, talking and connecting at it’s very finest.

As mentioned before, one woman from B.I.G signed up for a one-on-one with Mel following the inspirational meeting. I of course had to get the whole scoop for this blog post as I thought it would BEE a great tie-in for all my readers. Here’s the low-down on the show-down:

Aside from being so inspired after Mel’s initial talk, Liz really felt she would benefit from having a more personal interaction with Mel. They quickly found a date that was agreeable for both and Liz couldn’t wait for the day to arrive. Mel came to see Liz at her home, in her element. They spoke about Liz’s business- Liz’s Lasting Lost which stems from a life-long struggle with personal eating issues. Liz offers coaching about weight loss and other weighty issues in addition to a tools that aid in making eating healthy fun and less of a struggle.

During their meeting Mel helped Liz create a manageable plan of action which included a list of her goals and a strong emphasis on having a blog. Mel gave Liz the boost of internal ammo she needed to just JUMP and go for it all with her business. Liz felt empowered and connected to her business.

As the person who brought them together, this story is the quintessential example of what I love to do. I love to meet and connect and link other people together. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t but this case was extraordinary. I love to know that from one little conversation at Spark and Hustle months ago led to the empowerment of so many woman who attended the B.I.G meeting to now helping Liz take her business to the next level.

I hope this story inspires you to make a change to your business or brand or home life today. Join B.I.G or attend a networking group and spread the joy of giving. This tunic dress has been buzzing out of my booth all summer!

There are some staples to everyone’s summer wardrobe. For some it’s white capris. For other’s it’s the essential beach hat. For Sueb.do followers, it’s become my tunics which are dressy enough to be worn as an outfit but perfectly in style for your sandy days on the beaches of Cape Cod.

Tunics piqued my interest about three summers ago when I was trendspotting and noticing that more and more women were opting for a more fashionable look on the water’s edge and ditching the old oversized t-shirts that I was used to seeing.

The bold patterns in my cotton tunics are so in style.

I knew it was ON. I was then buzzing all around tapping into every resource I could to find the best tunics for my brand. Once I found the general style I knew my customers would wear, I was on the hunt to find the best quality fabrics and the most fashionable patterns I could get my busy bee hands on. What resulted has been two solid selling seasons of BEE-utiful tunics that have people coming back for more throughout the summer.

My tunics make great gifts. I have found many that are made of fine silk and accented with hand embroidery. I try to choose bold colors and patterns that will attract the eye. The tunics have added so much color and fashionability to my booth and store over the last two seasons.

Madras: The Timeless Summer Classic

Moments of our lives are defined by fashion. We remember the awful get-ups we wore in junior high school. We all try to forget the way our parents dressed us and yet, there are happy occasions by which fashion plays into as well. Perhaps nothing reminds me more of summer than madras. Cape Codders are going Mad for Madras!!

While I sell at a range of venues with even more varying crowds, events like the Pan Mass Challenge are so fun and different from my usual arena. Everyone at the event was there for a cause, a purpose and a passion. It was a warm summer morning and the PMC team was buzzing early at Babson College in Wellesley.

A large tent was erected over the blacktop parking lot where hundreds of volunteers waited to check-in the eager bikers, celebrating each “First Year Rider” with a cow bell and cheer from the crowd!

I was right in on all of the action. I was the only non-bike related booth. I stood next to Farina’s Bike Shop ( where I scored an awesome new fitted helmet!), New Balance, and a hoard of other companies promoting biking or bike gear. It was great to see the family members light up to see something fun and bright like my wares while under a tent full of gear aimed at the riders.

It was a busy but low-key day. We were pleasantly surprised by the amazing sponsors of such an event. Pinkberry, Nantucket Nectars, Pop Chips and New Balance were all there with their goods to give away and sample.

I am so honored to be a part of such amazing organizations as a business woman knowing that my goods have a purpose beyond desire. I’m also so proud of my cousin Mark, pictured below, who endured the long ride to help so many others in need.

As I’m sure you’ve gathered from my photos and stories shared in the past, a true perk of being a direct-to-consumer business is that I get to travel to some of the most beautiful places that the East Coast has to offer. Since my main focus is on the Cape and the Islands, anywhere near water is desirable for me to sell my island-y, beach-y and preppy themed items.

Last week I spent the day in Rockport supporting my dear friend Corrina Luther Belle-Isle who put on a phenomenal event called, Barefoot at Rockport. It was a day of shopping, fashion, networking and FUN!

Vintage guru and dear friend, Marissa showed up to help style the fashion show in the eve!

I was a vendor along with the famous vintage dealer, Bobby from Boston, silk bag and accessory designer- Iro, and some local artists who were selling their fine jewelry and silks. The event was at the newly built Shalin Liu Performance Center,and WHAT a location that was!

The daytime event was fun, lighthearted and I rocked it out with my Fine Featherhead tribe that has now spread to Rockport! By dusk all of the pop-up shops had tucked in for the nights ( with the exception of my little table so I could continue to bring people into the Feather tribe!) and we were ready for a fashion show with summer white looks by Bobby from Boston.
